Pain(t)

I thought everything was going so well. Turns out that's not true: paint has bested me. Here are some photos of kittens because they're nice and paint is not.

Anyway, the plan was always to paint the walls & trim SW 7004 Snowbound.  Update: we have shiplap in the bathroom and it was going to be a super cool color.

My light is not centered! Also super cool.

Do not be fearful of the brown paper; the tile is still fine.

So on the wall we tried Comfort Gray, Unusual Gray and Magnetic Gray

So pretty! So Gray! Just a touch of green, which I love and looks something like these inspo pics:

Looks totally super and very similar right? Ok well this is what happened when I put the samples on the wall:

Frustratingly fuckin green. I couldn't find a shade that I liked everything in lighter shades erred on the side of mint and I have no light in this bathroom. Or kitchen. Or really any room except the guest bedroom and presumably the garage.

So I found some new inspo and we are painting it all white:

It's sort of making me wish I had done brick floors but if I decide I hate white shiplap with white floors and a white tub I can always paint it another color. I'm a chicken.

So I went into my kitchen with aspirations of grandeur. BLACK cabinets I declared. Everything else is so fluffy I want to do something awesome and masculine.

Black

Blaaaack

Black cabinets are my world! My family was not impressed, however, so I decided to just SAMPLE it because SAMPLES are fine and everyone will see what a great idea it is:

Tricorn black! Iron ore!

But many, many people said "Try out gray." God bless Joanna Gaines but also get away from my cabinets.

So ok, gray:

Look at it next to Iron Ore! Looks so nice! Let's do Iron Ore! Except I honestly could not convince a living soul that I should paint my cabinets black. You'd think I had told people I was going to purposely set myself on fire.

So I tried to find some inspo pics, it was pretty sad going there for a minute:

This was the only one I really liked, but I also felt that these had the advantage of being very modern and not that much cabinetry plus lots and lots of natural light. My kitchen is a cave, which was most of the (almost valid) argument against black cabinets. I was feeling a little deflated and then I came across these beauties:

I can't stand green on my cave walls but maybe they'll be all they can be on my cabinets??

So I got 6 additional green paint samples because I have started to crack. Previously I had Black and Another Black; then I got a couple sad grays; a trip later I tried a happy medium between the two; and when I returned for 6 greens the people at Sherwin Williams were absolutely sure I am out of my gourd.

Top Left: Oak Moss; Top Right: Secret Garden
Middle Left: Basil; Middle Right: Privilege Green (check it)
Bottom Left: Dried Thyme; Bottom Right: Rosemary

Here they are! Dry and inside. My kitchen is a cave and the dark ones sort of look like black anyway. Charming. Oh did I mentioned it rained the 5 straight days I tried to do paint samples?

Dried Thyme (left) and Rosemary (right). I was absolutely sure it was going to be Rosemary, I asked 4 people, they all said Rosemary, and then I went home and looked at my inspo pic again:

I wasn't sure. There was no light and it was a little on the sage blue side instead of an emerald tone and I honestly lost sleep over a shade of green.

So we were  back with Dried Thyme/Rosemary & Oakmoss/Secret Garden; mercifully there was a little sun.

I sent my mom this photo and her response was: "there is no difference. stop texting me."

I'm really cool.

So we tried it with my cabinet hardware (!!!)

Here they are in the sun. I think we went with Secret Garden but honestly who knows.
Then finally we got the front door installed! Yay no more ugly glass rose or whatever it was!

And the columns were installed! Aaaaand it turns out I ordered the wrong kind of wood for my brackets but I can't return them now! So we are hoping we can stain this shit to match...

Lastly, fame is a fickle friend as as soon as I declared I didn't want the couch that I wanted, I had to have it. Here it is! And here is a photo of a recliner I love and want to purchase:

With some acapulco chairs and silver throw skins. Also I found this pillow and if any of y'all want to go ahead and spring for it, it would be my most cherished possession:
